Rig and animate insects, spiders and crabs online
MonRig rigs and animates ants, beetles, spiders, scorpions, mantises, centipedes, lobsters, crabs and caterpillars in the browser. Upload the mesh as FBX, GLB or OBJ, give it a skeleton (a starter skeleton you drag into place, a few clicked landmarks for Guided Rig, or Auto Rig's proposal), and every clip is generated from that skeleton, then baked as FBX and GLB for Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot, Blender or three.js. Rigging and previewing is free.
Body types
Hexapod (six or more legs)
Six legs walk an alternating tripod; a fourth pair (spiders) continues it as an alternating tetrapod, and the knees rise up and out the way insect legs fold.
Starter skeletons: Ant / insect, Spider (8 legs), Scorpion, Beetle, Mantis, Lobster / crayfish, Centipede (12 legs), Plain six-legger.
Crab (sideways scuttler)
Scuttles sideways, its legs stepping in a wave from back to front.
Larva (inchworm)
Inches along: a hump travels along the back from the tail to the head.
Animations
A new creature here starts with these 16 clips, generated for its body type:
Optional clips that suit this anatomy (each one checks the rig and says what it needs, such as a tail, wings or a head):
Clip names stay the same on every re-bake, so an Animator state that points at Walk keeps working. Each clip has dials that change how it looks, from the gait to the tail carriage.
Before you upload
Six, eight or twelve legs are all fine: the legs are grouped into rows from front to back and each row steps in its turn. A scorpion's stinger is a tail, so StingAttack can aim it. One creature per file, in a neutral pose; MonRig rebuilds the upload from its geometry, so an existing skeleton in the file is replaced.
