Body bent to one side? Mirror it along a bendy middle line
Some creatures bend as a whole: seen from above, the body curves like a banana or an S, and no flat mirror plane fits. The Symmetric step now has a bendy middle line: move it along the body's middle, press ✓ Use this line, and MonRig straightens the body before mirroring it.
A mirror plane is flat. That works for a creature that stands straight, but some come bent as a whole: seen from above, the body curves like a banana or an S, and every flat plane cuts it at a slant. Now the Symmetric step can follow the bend:
- 〰 Bendy middle line. MonRig suggests a line along the body's middle and shows your model from straight above. Drag the red points to where the middle really is, or press ↺ Guess the line again.
- Nothing changes until you say so. Moving the points is instant. Press ✓ Use this line and the body is straightened along it, then mirrored. Legs and wings turn with the body they hang on.
- Heads and tails stay found. A head or a tail MonRig found on your model is found again on the straightened body and laid on the middle as before.
- Tails mirror along their own middle. A curved tail's mirror line now runs through the middle of the tail itself, so a bent tail is no longer cut thin.
- Faster, and you can see it working. The Symmetric window does its measuring three to four times faster, and a progress card shows which step it is on (Step 1 of 4 …) with a bar that keeps moving.
Turn the line off and you get the plain mirror back. As always, the copy is made in your browser and nothing is uploaded until you choose.
