Too many vertices? Make a lighter copy before you upload
Models from AI generators often have 500,000 to 2 million vertices. From 50,000, MonRig now opens a side-by-side comparison when you pick the file and makes a lighter copy on your computer: the original on the left, the copy on the right, one slider for the size.
AI generators hand out creatures with 500,000 to 2 million vertices: far more than a game creature needs (usually 5,000 to 50,000) and more than MonRig takes (300,000). Until now such a file was turned away with a note on how to reduce it in Blender. Now you do it right where you upload:
- Pick or drop your file as usual. From 50,000 vertices a comparison opens by itself: the original on the left, a lighter copy on the right. Turn one and both turn.
- One slider for the size. It starts at 20,000 vertices (30,000 if the file is over the limit). Let go and the copy is made again in a second or two, even from a million vertices. Wireframe shows where the triangles went.
- See it with its texture. If the colours come as a separate PNG or JPEG, add it with Add texture…: both sides show it, and it is uploaded with your creature.
- Nothing is uploaded until you choose. The copy is made on your computer. Use the lighter copy puts it in place of the original, as a .glb with the same name. Under 300,000 vertices you can also Keep the original.
The copy keeps your model's shape, size and texture seams, so the texture sits where it did.
