New models are turned, stood on their feet and centred for you
When you open a new model, MonRig now turns it to face the front if it lies sideways, straightens it if it stands at an angle, stands a four-legged creature on its feet if its file has it tipped, and puts its middle on the centre line. One click undoes it.
Before you place a single marker, your creature has to stand upright, face the front and stand on the centre line: every paired marker is mirrored across that line. Until now that was your job, on the Orientation and Model position steps. Now MonRig does it when you open a new model:
- Lying sideways (four-legged bodies): turned so it looks at you in the front view.
- Turned on the spot by up to 45°: straightened.
- Tipped in its file (four-legged bodies): stood on its feet. A model that balanced on the tip of its tail with its feet in the air now stands on all four.
- Off the centre line: its middle is moved onto x = 0, the line its left and right mirror across. A tail lying on the floor no longer pulls the whole creature to one side.
The Orientation panel says what was done and why. ↶ Undo the set-up (or Ctrl+Z) puts the model back exactly as its file has it, and you still confirm with ✓ That's right. A new red centre line in the front and top views shows where the middle belongs.
After a sideways turn, check the side view: if the green FRONT arrow comes out of the tail, press turn it around. Creatures you have already rigged are not touched.
