Four-legged walks sink less, with a new Shoulder swing dial
Four-legged creatures used to dip down in the middle of each step so their legs could reach the ground. Now the shoulders swing with the front legs, the paws push off from the ball of the foot, and the body stays level.
A dog's shoulder blade slides on its ribs as it walks, so the front leg can reach further without the body dropping. MonRig's front legs were fixed to the chest, so the whole body sank a little at every step to let the paws reach the ground.
- The shoulder swings. The top of each front leg now swings with its paw, and the body sinks much less. A new dial, Shoulder swing, sets how far: 0 fixes the shoulder to the chest, 0.4 is the default and 2 is a big, loose shoulder.
- Paws push off from the ball. A creature that walks on its toes now rolls over the ball of its paw. Before, it pushed its toes down into the floor. A toe never rolls further than 75°.
- Sideways room counts too. Room a leg gets from swaying sideways is added at a right angle to the step, so it no longer makes the body dip in Walk and Run.
- No more drop at every step. A walking body now holds its height through the step, with only a small, steady bob.
Open any four-legged creature's Walk to see it. Your own dial settings are kept.
