Guided rig, tested on twenty models it had never seen
We put twenty unseen creatures through the guided rig, looked at every result, and fixed what was wrong. Quick mode now also asks for the knee.
We took twenty creatures MonRig had never seen and rigged each of them through the guided rig, in quick and precise mode, exactly as you would. Every model it refused was our fault, and all of those are fixed: twenty out of twenty quick rigs are accepted.
Numbers can lie, so we then rendered every rig and looked at it. What changed:
- Quick mode asks for the knee on every body that bends its legs (four-legged, upright, birds, flyers, hoppers, sprawlers). Guessing the knee from the mesh failed too often.
- Legs start where they leave the body, at their own station along it, and the spine stays inside the torso.
- Tails, trunks and tentacles follow the part from the tip you clicked, centred in its cross-section, with the root where the part joins the body.
- Fan tails are rooted at their stem, fingers are fitted once the arm has settled, and an ear guessed across thin air is dropped.
- When the fit refuses, it names the check that failed.
