Chest beats stop at the chest

A gorilla-style chest beat drove both fists through the body. MonRig now measures where the torso's surface is and the fists stop there.

In the Spawn chest beat, each fist was folded towards the body by a fixed angle that knew nothing about how deep the chest is. On one of our creatures most of both fists ended up inside the torso, 14 cm deep.

MonRig now measures the torso's surface around the spine (the editor does it as you rig, the bake does it for older creatures), and every fist is placed in front of the chest, out to the surface. A thump closes the gap to contact and never goes past it. On that creature not a single fist vertex is inside the body any more, on any frame.

Two new dials on Spawn:

  • Beat swing: how far each fist draws back, out and up between thumps
  • Beat depth: how far a thump may sink into the chest (0 = it stops where the mesh ends)
